Overview

As a UX Designer for the UniFi Network Web App, I focused on simplifying network management workflows and improving usability for IT professionals. My primary challenge was creating solutions that were powerful enough for enterprise users while remaining intuitive for less experienced customers. Working on UniFi and other networking products deepened my expertise in designing for enterprise environments. My contributions spanned SD-WAN Site Magic, network settings (Wi-Fi & more), dashboard, ensuring a scalable and efficient user experience and much more.

Key Contributions

Comprehensive Interface Redesign:

Dashboard Enhancements: Developed a centralized dashboard displaying real-time port statuses, throughput statistics, and utilization metrics, enabling users to monitor network performance at a glance.

Navigation Optimization: Streamlined the interface to ensure effortless access to critical functions such as VLAN configuration, port settings, and device statistics.

Feature Integration:

Firewall Configuration: Designed intuitive workflows for setting up firewall rules, NAT configurations, and security groups, empowering users to manage network security effectively.

Routing Management: Implemented user-friendly interfaces for viewing routing tables, adding static routes, and configuring OSPF settings, simplifying complex routing tasks.

DHCP and VPN Setup: Facilitated easy configuration of DHCP servers, lease management, and VPN setups, including IPsec and WireGuard, to support secure remote connections.

User-Centric Design Approach:

Feedback Incorporation: Engaged with alpha users to gather insights, refining the UI/UX to align with user expectations and operational needs.

Consistency and Accessibility: Ensured the design adhered to Ubiquiti’s visual standards while prioritizing accessibility, making the interface usable for a diverse user base.

Outcome

The redesigned local web interfaces for the UISP Router and Switch have been well-received, offering network administrators a more intuitive and efficient platform for device management. The enhancements have led to improved user satisfaction and streamlined network operations, reflecting a successful alignment of design objectives with user needs.
